What Kind Of Motorcycle Is Good For A Beginner Like Me?

I’m looking into buying a motorcycle. I am 17 years old and will not be needing it for overly fast speeds as its mostly for riding to school or around town. What cc do you recommend and what specific type of bike. I prefer Sport-Touring bikes that have a good look to them.

Hey, I am glad to see that you are interested in motorcycles.
If you don’t have much experience at all, I would recomend you a dual purpose bike for first, 4 stroke, even used sounds good. I love sport bikes and used to race them, but those are for the more experienced riders.
How about an Aprilia RS 50, it’ small, light, sporty and a tipical youngster’s favorit around Europe. They are durable enough and offer lots of fun.
Go around dealerships and tell them what you looking for and don’t buy the first one, see all dealerships in your area, take pictures with your camera or phone, look them up on the internet then, make up your mind and buy the one is the most pleasent for your eyes, what you feel you going to be happy with.
I won’t recommend anything bigger than 250cc and believe it or not a dual purpose bike with a 4 stroke engine makes lots of sense later, you can practice off road too, and whatever you do, buy Japanese, not Chienese!
    Good luck!

For a sport-touring bike, the Suzuki SV650, GS500, Ninja 500/650/250 would all be good starters. better yet, IMO, is a dual sport bike, anywhere from the 250 class to the 650 singles if you are over 5’10″. Dual sports are easy to ride, and go anywhere, meaning they are a lot more fun than any pavement-only bike. You learn bike control skills quickly and to a degree not possible on a street bike, as you can ride sand, mud and rocks, and practice riding out of traffic in an environment where you and the bike don’t get messed up if you tip over.

I’m 17 i live in Orlando, FL i ride an 07 Ninja ZX600 it is a great bike but it gets boring after a while. I started riding at 15 and it was a 04Yamaha R1 so its not necessarily what cc you want to start at but witch one you can afford. you know what I mean?
I would say go with a 600 at least you probably will get bored with it and wish you had a bigger bike later but you could think about it and say ya know i could have gotten worse (a 250 or lower)…

well im 16 and ride a suzuki gn125 and it has okay power for what i need to do. so i would say that a 250-500cc would be plenty for u. a bike that i would suggest is a older honda gl 500 (like a 84ish). bikes r a blast to ride so i would say get one for sure!!

i would recommend a ninja 250-500 as a starter bike the small engine-while it may become boring eventually, will keep you from catching yourself by surprise as you enter corners as easily.

Check your DVM. In some states 17 yr old is restricted to 250cc.
