How Many Miles Are Too Many For A Motorcycle?

I’m finding some used motorcycles that have about 4k-6k miles on them and then occasionally I’ll see one with 14k miles on them. From the looks of it, most people are getting rid of theirs at only a couple thousand miles. How many miles, would you say, is a lot for a motorcycle?

As a recreational vehicle, motorcycles do not get much mileage. they say 9k miles on a bike is break in minumum, 50k is alot. unless it is goldwing, they get 100k, mileage is not very important like a car when you have alot more functional components

I put 10k on my bike the first year I got it and it’s barely broken in….If you are going to ride you have to know how to work on them. The better you are at working on bikes the more miles you can put on them…Just Buy American Harleys last forever and never lose their value…

On a modern aluminum head Harley, get the valve guides checked at 100,000 miles.

Modern motorcycles like autos are very durable if maintained properly. Low mileage bikes are for the most part reflective of their riders. Many “bikers” consider riding a fair weather proposition, and the mileage is reflected accordingly. I personally know of 600cc bikes with 140k miles and still running. Know of a Goldwing with over 200k. I have personally ridden a HD over 48k without mechanical issues.

I have a 78 Honda with 30,000+ km and an 85 Suzuki Intruder with 53000+ km on. As long as they have been looked after and you know you are going to have to do some upkeep here and there. I am not worried about them at all. I suppose when they hit close to 80000km I might.

Until you start having problems 1 after another and the power of your bike is fading fast.

Check out the bikes on ebay. Somedays you will find some with 35k or more. I have a guy living up the road from me that has a 70s model water cooled 750 honda that has over 200,000 miles on it.

Depends on the make and on the tratment of the bike. I believe that a cruiser can have way more mileage that a dirt bike. I have an sports bike and I can tell you that I woulnd’t buy a 30000 miles bike. But it really depends on the treatment of the owner and if the bike was keep indoors or outdoors, was on an accident or has been used on competition.

for a sports bike 10K for a touring bike 30K+ a bike built for touring/cruising like a goldwing for example can handle a lot of mileage. sports bikes need constant tune ups in their latter years.

    2-5000 k is average
    5-9k is ok
anything above that is a little too high depending on the maintenance perfromed on the bike.
my 2003 ZX6R had 9000 miles on it untill 2005 and it sold for $5300…sold it cheap would have gotten 6000 for it.

If a bikes got a full service history then mileage shouldn’t be a problem. There’s lots of 2-3000 milers on the market because people change their bikes more often because they want the latest “fashionable” machines.
